Oil and Gas News
OPEC's Top Official Says Oil Demand Will Keep Growing for Years
OPEC’s top official says the world will need more oil for the next 25 years as energy use grows. He warns that if companies don’t invest enough in oil and gas, it could lead to supply problems and price swings. He also thinks some climate goals are too strict and says we should focus on technology to reduce pollution from oil instead of cutting oil production too fast.
INEOS Wants More U.S. Shale Oil & Gas – But Only the Steady Kind
British energy company INEOS is looking to buy more oil and gas fields in the U.S., focusing on older, steady-producing shale wells. After buying land and wells in South Texas for $1.4 billion in 2023, the company now wants similar deals across the country. Unlike many public companies chasing fast growth, INEOS—being privately owned—plans to hold these assets for the long haul, make steady profits, and reinvest in more deals. They're betting on the U.S. for its stability and clear rules, especially compared to high taxes and uncertainty in places like the UK’s North Sea.
Oil Prices Rise to 2-Month High on Talk of U.S.-China Trade Deal
President Trump announced a pending deal with China that would restart the flow of rare earth materials and magnets to the U.S.—key components used in electric vehicles, military tech, and more. In exchange, the U.S. will honor certain agreements, like allowing Chinese students to attend American universities. The news comes after China had restricted these exports earlier this year, causing supply chain issues. Following the announcement, oil prices jumped—WTI crude rose to $68 a barrel—as markets reacted positively to easing trade tensions. Below is a look at WTI prices as of early Wednesday.

Shell Plans Big LNG Boost by 2030 as Global Demand Rises
Shell says it will add 12 million tons of new liquefied natural gas (LNG) capacity by 2030 through projects in Canada, Qatar, Nigeria, and the UAE. As the world’s top LNG seller, Shell is growing fast to meet rising global demand—especially from Asia. The company is also expanding through deals and partnerships, including buying Singapore-based Pavilion Energy. Shell expects LNG use to grow around 60% by 2040 as countries look for cleaner energy and more power is needed for industries and technologies like artificial intelligence.
Moves to Watch
Honeywell Buys Big Pump and Compressor Company for $2.2 Billion
Honeywell has bought Sundyne, a major maker of pumps and compressors used in oil and gas, for $2.16 billion. This deal adds about 1,000 workers to Honeywell and helps it reach more customers. The purchase is part of Honeywell’s recent plan to reorganize and focus on its main businesses. Honeywell will combine Sundyne’s equipment with its own technology to grow and serve customers better.
