Oil & Gas News

Oil Prices Surge 2% on Supply Concerns Over U.S. Tariff Threats
Oil prices rose by about 2%, reaching a five-week high, due to concerns that U.S. President Trump's threats of secondary tariffs on Russian oil and potential actions against Iran could disrupt supply. Brent crude settled at $74.74 per barrel, while WTI reached $71.48. Despite these concerns, some analysts believe Trump's threats may not materialize, which has kept the market somewhat stable. Supply risks are further heightened by issues with Kurdish oil exports and U.S. actions against Venezuela. Check out the graphics below and you can also see the most up-to-date numbers on oil and natural gas prices here.
Thailand Joins Vietnam in Pledging More U.S. Energy Imports to Avoid Tariffs
Thailand has pledged to increase its energy imports from the U.S. to avoid an 11% tariff, a move motivated by the potential $8 billion impact on its economy. This follows Vietnam's decision to reduce tariffs on various imports, including liquefied natural gas. Both countries are responding to looming U.S. tariffs on nations with trade surpluses, with the U.S. aiming to boost energy exports amid global price increases.

Texas Sets Record for Oil and Gas Production in 2024

In 2024, Texas reached new production milestones, producing 2.003 billion barrels of crude oil and 12.62 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, both record highs. This marks the first time the state exceeded 2 billion barrels of oil in a single year. The increased production bolstered state revenue, benefiting sectors like education and transportation through oil and gas tax contributions.

Move to Watch

ConocoPhillips Lists Anadarko Assets for Sale at $1B
ConocoPhillips is marketing its Anadarko Basin assets, valued at $1 billion, which were acquired through its $22.5 billion purchase of Marathon Oil last year. The company has enlisted Moelis & Co. to handle the sale. These assets, including 250,000 net acres and production from Oklahoma, are attracting interest due to rising natural gas prices and increased M&A activity in the Midcontinent.

TG Natural Resources Acquires Chevron's Haynesville Assets for $525 Million
TG Natural Resources has secured Chevron's 71,000-acre undeveloped Haynesville Shale assets in Panola County, Texas, for $525 million. The deal includes a 70% interest in the property, with Chevron retaining a 30% stake. The assets, valued by Chevron at $1.2 billion, offer significant upside with substantial untapped potential, including around 300 operated Haynesville locations. This acquisition marks Chevron's exit from Haynesville as part of its broader divestment strategy.
