Oil and Gas News
NatGas Prices Spike on Smaller Stockpile Build Expectations
U.S. natural gas futures jumped over 5% Wednesday, hitting a one-week high, as traders anticipated a smaller-than-usual inventory increase in the upcoming government storage report. Analysts expect a rise of 27 bcf, well below the five-year average of 38 bcf for this time of year. Thin trading amplified the rally, though prices remain under pressure from record-high U.S. production, mild weather forecasts, and strong stockpiles.

Trump Warns Russia of Tougher Sanctions as Ukraine War Heats Up
President Trump wants the fighting in Ukraine to stop and is warning that he could put even stronger economic sanctions on Russia if it doesn’t happen soon. Russia is still gaining ground in the war, and Ukraine is asking other countries for more help and weapons. Trump also suggested he could take action against Ukraine, and criticized both Russian and Ukrainian leaders. Meanwhile, Ukraine has eased travel rules so men up to age 22 can leave the country, however there’s debate about whether all rules are being enforced fairly.
Matterhorn Partners Greenlight $2.5Bcf/d Permian-to-Gulf Coast Gas Pipeline
The owners of the Matterhorn Express Pipeline (WhiteWater Development, ONEOK, MPLX, and Enbridge) have approved construction of the Eiger Express Pipeline, a major natural gas conduit designed to move up to 2.5 billion cubic feet per day from the Permian Basin to Texas’ Gulf Coast. The 450-mile will run from West Texas to near Houston with capacity reserved for deliveries to Corpus Christi. Backed by long-term contracts with primarily investment-grade shippers, the project is expected to be operational by mid-2028, subject to approvals. WhiteWater will build and operate the pipeline, enhancing connectivity to growing U.S. power generation and LNG export markets.
Texas LNG Project Gets More Time to Move Forward
Federal regulators have cleared the way for Glenfarne to keep building its planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Brownsville, Texas. The project now has until 2029 to begin operations, giving the company extra time after earlier delays. Glenfarne expects to decide by the end of 2025 whether to fully move ahead, and says it already has enough buyers lined up to make the project viable.
Moves to Watch
Harvest Strikes $1B Deal to Grow in Rockies
Harvest Midstream is spending $1 billion to buy a big package of pipelines and natural gas plants across Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado from MPLX. The deal gives Harvest control of more than 1,500 miles of pipelines and several processing plants that turn raw natural gas into usable fuel. MPLX is selling to focus on its stronger hubs in the Marcellus and Permian regions. The sale should wrap up by the end of the year.
