Newsletter No. 188
Good afternoon subscriber,
There’s a lot happening in the energy business right now, and this week’s stories show just how connected the global oil and gas market really is.
EnCap is holding on to $3.5 billion in Permian Basin mineral assets, and dealmaking continues across Canada. At the same time, Morgan Stanley is warning that fuel supplies could remain tight well into 2027. India is looking for new sources of crude oil, and a recent pipeline disruption between Texas and Mexico shows just how important reliable natural gas supplies are.
This week is also a special one for us at King Operating. On Sunday, October 18, we celebrated 30 years in business. We've seen oil prices rise and fall, markets change, and technology reshape how we operate. Through it all, we've kept our focus on finding opportunities and developing oil and gas assets. Thirty years is a milestone we're proud of, and we're looking forward to what's next.
Keep reading this week’s The Upside for a closer look at the stories shaping the energy market.

Texas Natural Gas Keeps Mexico Running
Kinder Morgan has restored natural gas shipments from Texas to Mexico after pipeline issues forced a temporary shutdown earlier this month.
The disruption raised concerns about Mexico's dependence on U.S. natural gas. About 75% of Mexico's natural gas comes from Texas, and the country reportedly has only three days of gas reserves.
It's a reminder of just how important Texas natural gas is, not just for the U.S., but for keeping Mexico's power grid running.

EnCap Makes a $3.5 Billion Bet on the Permian
EnCap Investments has closed a record $3.5 billion deal to hold on to its Permian Basin mineral interests. The portfolio covers 134,000 net royalty acres and generates about 37,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, with major operators including ExxonMobil, Diamondback Energy, and ConocoPhillips.
The deal allows EnCap to keep its stake in producing assets while giving existing investors a chance to cash out. It's another sign of how much value major investors continue to see in the Permian Basin and the long-term cash flow these assets can generate.
All the best,
Jay
