Oil and Gas News
OPEC Says the World Needs $18.2 Trillion to Keep Up with Energy Demand
OPEC’s leader, Haitham Al Ghais, says the world must invest $18.2 trillion in oil and gas by 2050 to keep up with rising energy needs. He expects global energy use to grow 23% by then, with oil still making up about 30% of all energy used. OPEC warns that without steady investment, there won’t be enough supply to meet demand. The group also noted that the International Energy Agency now agrees new oil and gas projects are needed, a change from its earlier stance against new investments.
U.S. Oil Production Set to Hit Record Levels in 2025 and 2026
The U.S. government now expects the country to keep breaking oil production records over the next two years. The Energy Information Administration says the U.S. pumped about 13.6 million barrels a day in July, the highest ever, and should average 13.5 million barrels a day in both 2025 and 2026. U.S. oil (WTI) should average about $65 a barrel this year.
TotalEnergies Expects Higher Q3 Profits as Production and Refining Rise
TotalEnergies says its profits and cash flow likely increased in the third quarter of 2025 compared to last year, even though oil prices dropped by $10 per barrel. The company produced about 2.5 million barrels of oil and gas per day, up 4% from a year ago. It also earned more from refining fuel in Europe, where profit margins climbed from $15 to $63 per ton. Overall, the company expects a small rise in total earnings, between 0% and 5%, thanks to stronger production and refining results. Shell also predicts better third-quarter profits for similar reasons, including higher gas trading and refinery performance.
Moves to Watch
Bloom Energy and Brookfield Team Up for $5 Billion AI Power Project
Bloom Energy and Brookfield Asset Management are joining forces in a $5 billion deal to build new energy systems that can handle the huge power needs of artificial intelligence. The project will use Bloom’s fuel cell technology to create “AI factories,” which are large data centers designed to produce and manage computing power efficiently.
The companies plan to develop these facilities around the world, with the first site in Europe expected to be announced later this year. Bloom’s CEO, KR Sridhar, said AI requires massive, fast, and flexible energy supplies that current power grids can’t provide.
This marks Brookfield’s first big step into AI-related energy projects, expanding on its long history of investing in digital and power infrastructure.
