Oil & Gas News

Oil Prices Rise to Around $70 on Strong Demand Signals
Oil prices have risen after a rough start to the week, reaching around $70 for Brent crude and $66.75 for WTI. This is due to stronger oil imports from Asia and a weaker dollar, which could boost demand. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) revised its outlook, predicting tighter supply and higher prices later this year. The head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) also called for more investment in oil production. Geopolitical news, like a potential Ukraine ceasefire, is adding to the uncertainty. Check out the graphic below and you can also see the most up-to-date numbers on commodity prices here.

Trump's Energy Policies Focus on Natural Gas and U.S. Energy Dominance

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright recently spoke about how natural gas is a big part of Trump’s energy plan. At the 2025 CERAWeek conference, he explained that natural gas will be key to meeting both U.S. and global energy needs. The Trump administration wants to increase U.S. oil and gas production, make it easier for energy companies to get projects approved, and reduce red tape to help lower energy costs.

These moves are part of Trump’s plan to make the U.S. a stronger energy producer, boost fossil fuel production, and expand LNG exports. This could mean more opportunities for investors in the U.S. oil and gas industry. I wrote a blog on Trump’s energy policies and how they could impact the future of U.S. energy production and investments. You can read the full blog here for more details.

'Drill, Baby, Drill' Plan: Keeping the World Dependent on Fossil Fuels

President Trump is pushing for more oil and gas production in the U.S. and making global deals to keep the world reliant on fossil fuels. He’s using U.S. leverage to strengthen oil and gas flows with countries like Japan and Ukraine. In Africa, his administration is even promoting the revival of coal as an energy source. The U.S. is also exporting more natural gas, increasing its influence on the global energy market.

Move to Watch

Whitecap and Veren Merge in $10.4B Deal
Whitecap Resources and Veren Inc. are merging in a $10.4 billion all-stock deal to create the biggest producer of light oil and condensate in Western Canada. The new company will control over 1.5 million acres of land with thousands of drilling sites. It is expected to produce 370,000 barrels of oil per day, with most of it coming from the Alberta regions. The merger is expected to save over $140 million a year and should be completed by May 30. Whitecap’s management team will lead the new company, and four Veren board members will join Whitecap’s board.
