Oil & Gas News

Trump Nominates Kathleen Sgamma to Lead BLM
President Trump has nominated Kathleen Sgamma, the head of a group that supports oil and gas development, to run the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Sgamma has pushed for fewer rules and more drilling on public lands. If confirmed, she would shift the focus of the BLM from green energy to supporting more oil and gas projects. With 18 years of experience in the industry, Sgamma has been involved in legal battles and policy changes that could impact how public lands are used.

EIA Increases 2025 Natural Gas Price Forecast by 21%
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has raised its 2025 natural gas price prediction by 21%, now forecasting an average of $3.80 per unit. This change comes after colder weather, higher demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), and the growing need for natural gas to power AI data centers. Natural gas prices spiked in January due to a cold snap, and with new projects like the Plaquemines LNG plant and AI developments increasing demand, prices are expected to stay higher through 2025.

U.S. Tariffs Could Make Onshore Wind Projects More Expensive
A new report says that tariffs (taxes on imports) from the Trump administration could raise the cost of onshore wind projects in the U.S. by up to 7%. These tariffs affect parts like wind turbine blades and electrical systems, which the U.S. still imports. While the U.S. is less dependent on foreign imports than before, these higher costs could slow down the growth of the wind energy industry. Some companies may adjust their supply chains to try and lessen the impact.
