Global Oil & Gas News
O&G Executive Nominated for U.S. Energy Secretary by Trump
Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy, has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to become the U.S. Secretary of Energy. Wright, known for his work in the oil and gas industry, is seen as a practical problem-solver focused on making energy affordable and reliable. If confirmed, he would lead efforts to manage nuclear security and energy policies, including rolling back some of the current administration's climate-related initiatives. Wright’s nomination positions him to play a key role in reshaping the nation's energy landscape.
Oil Giants Scale Back Renewable Investments Due to Market Challenges
BP, Shell, and Equinor are scaling back their renewable energy plans, reducing low-carbon projects due to rising costs, technical difficulties, and the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. BP is halting 18 hydrogen projects and cutting its renewables team, while Shell is pulling back from offshore wind and hydrogen initiatives.
Oil Prices Rise Due to China Demand and Ukraine Conflict
Oil prices have gone up recently. This increase is due to stronger oil demand from China and growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The recent conflict in Ukraine has raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil supply. At the same time, China is importing more oil, suggesting higher demand. You can see the up-to-the-minute commodities numbers here.

The deal is expected to close by early 2025, pending regulatory approval.
